Client Testimonial

Mark helped us put together a plan to renovate a neglected century old home that hadn't been updated since the 70s. We liked that he was able to provide a plan within our budget and didn't have us gutting the entire house to "start over". We ended up opening a few walls on the main floor to make an open floor plan, putting in a new kitchen, putting a new full bathroom on the second floor (full gut) along with some other miscellaneous repairs throughout the house.

What we liked: Good ideas to help maintain as much of the original house as possible to help manage our budget; great job carrying through the old style mouldings and finishes through the new reno'd parts of the house (e.g., trim on doors/windows); great finishing and detail work to make an Ikea kitchen look "custom" fitted to the ceilings/walls of an old home (that aren't square); quality of workmanship and materials; attention to our concerns when raised. On example is when realized after the fact that the bath faucet didn't overhang the tub enough. The Ashton team came back and addressed it. They seem accountable for the quality of their work; Mark is great. Easy to work and communicate with. Provides good input and did a good job meeting our needs.

What could be improved: the timeline for the project really stretched on. It was originally estimated at 6 months but the job dragged on for about 10+ months. We weren't living the house, so maybe there was less urgency to have things completed as quickly as they could be; we contracted the whole house painting through Ashton (who used another company) but the quality of the paint job was not very satisfactory. They came back multiple times to fix issues and in the end it seems they did not prep the surfaces properly because the paint is easily scraped and scratched off with minor rubbing; some minor issues here and there that we weren't able to address but with such a big job it's probably par for the course.

In the end, the finished product is pretty amazing. The Ashton team took an unliveable house and transformed into something really beautiful. There were some hiccups but in the end we were satisfied with the job done. Great attention to the details. Overall we would recommend Ashton Renovations…and we have!
