Chris Ashton plays in Eric Lindros Celebrity Hockey Charity

Recently I had the opportunity to live out a childhood dream! I became a pro hockey player! Well, not really. I did however step onto the ice with two of my hockey idols at the same time – Wendel Clark of the Toronto Maple Leafs & Eric Lindros of The Philadelphia Flyers(among others…). A friend of mine, Jay Stevens who, I have played with for many years in a Men’s hockey league called the Pro Hockey Network, reached out. He asked if I wished to join his team at a charity tournament with other teams and a bunch of ex NHL players! Not only would I be able to play hockey with some legends on the ice, our Company, Ashton Renovations, would be able to contribute to a great cause at the same time.

Easter Seals Ontario

Easter Seals Ontario is a Charity for helping children and youth with physical disabilities. Summer camps are created to bring many together and provide experiences they would never have otherwise. In these camps, along with the many fun activities in which they are able to participate, they also build friendships & are given support, assurance, and self confidence. These attributes were on full display on stage where two young gentlemen spoke in-front of all the teams participating in the tournament. I was reminded of the stories my father, Alan Ashton shared from his time as a ski Instructor at Blue Mountain, where he taught athletes with disabilities to snow ski. Knowing a small donation can improve the lives of others, and seeing first hand the result is both humbling & inspiring.

The atmosphere was full of non stop positivity and fun for all… and I speak also of the NHLers who came together to make this happen. They were all down to earth, friendly, and eager to share stories with anyone! Combine the great game of hockey and an even greater cause & the result is a greater appreciation for life itself.
