From Outdated to Modern: Oakwood Village Home Transformation
There’s something special about working on an older home—especially when the goal isn’t just to renovate it, but to respect its history while bringing it into modern living.
This project, recently featured in RENO + DÉCOR Magazine, is a great example of that balance.

A Home That Needed More Than Cosmetic Updates
Like many older Toronto homes, this one had gone through multiple renovations over the years—resulting in poor flow, inconsistent finishes, and underlying structural challenges.
The solution wasn’t just updating surfaces. It required reworking the layout, improving how the space functions, and addressing key structural elements along the way.

Design That Balances Function and Character
The goal was to create a warm, functional family home—something that works for everyday living, not just something that looks good in photos.
- Opening up the layout for better light and flow
- Integrating structural elements into the design (like the kitchen island post)
- Using durable materials suited for a young family and dog
- Preserving original features like exposed brick where possible
It’s that balance between old and new that gives the home its character.
A Cohesive Result—Inside and Out
From the layered kitchen design to the updated exterior with black accents and new siding, every decision was made to create a cohesive feel throughout the home.
The end result is a space that feels:
- Open and functional
- Durable and practical
- Warm and connected to its history
Exactly what a well-planned renovation should achieve.
